Gatley Primary School

BBTS staff were invited into Gatley Primary School to advise on a new stage lighting system for the school hall.

The school had never had a permanent stage lighting rig, having previously relied on a portable system comprising of a few lights on a couple of stands.

BBTS were briefed on the budget and requirements. The school wanted a permanent rig but noted that the hall was used with a stage at one end and, at other times, a stage along one side — so any installed lighting had to work for both configurations. The school were also keen that the system should be simple enough for students to operate independently during school plays.

Working within the budget, BBTS drew up a specification for the equipment, cabling, power supply, and positioning of the lighting bars, which the school were delighted with. BBTS were also able to recommend specialist companies to carry out the installation.

The project resulted in the small school hall having a 12-channel dimming system and two permanently installed lighting bars spanning the width of the hall. 18 fixtures comprising a mixture of both Fresnels and Zoom Profiles were purchased along with a simple 12-channel, 2-scene preset control desk that teachers and students alike could operate without formal training.
